Carpet Abrasion Tester - For Testing Lab Abrasion resistance is the most important property on which the durability of a carpet depends. Abrasion resistance of carpets is determined by abrading a circular test specimen against a specified abradant for various number of rubs and determining loss in mass versus number of rubs, or the number of rubs required to reveal the backing. The  Carpet Abrasion Tester consists of two vertical shafts rotating in the same direction at same speed with their centers offset. The specimen of carpet is clamped on the lower shaft and is rubbed against a larger circle of standard crossbred fabric clamped on the bottom of the upper shaft. The rotations of the shafts are such as to give a constant relative velocity between specimen and abradant at all parts of the specimen. A counter is provided to record the number of rubs, with arrangement to stop the machine automatically after preset number of rubs.
