The disc shaped test specimens are either obtained from the component or moulded from the compound from which the component is to be moulded It determines the ability of the rubber compound or the component moulded from it to retain its elastic property after prolonged compression.   Compression set may be determined after subjecting the test specimen either to a constant deflection, or after pressing it under a constant load. The Compression Set Apparatus for determination of compression set under constant strain (quick clamping type) consists of four polished stainless steel plates having flat and parallel ground faces. These plates are fitted on a rigid metallic frame. A pair of rods is provided to locate the plates. The compressed thickness is maintained with the help of three pairs of spacers of thickness 9.50 mm.
