Radioactivity Decay and Ba 137m Half-Time Period

Radioactivity Decay and Ba 137m Half-Time Period

CAT NO: DIDACTICNPS0018

Radioactivity Decay and Ba 137m Half-Time Period Description and Tender Specification:

Radioactivity Decay and Ba 137m Half-Time Period.

With this experiment it is possible to obtain the decay curve of Ba-137 metastable state of the isotope Ba-137, and it is also possible to determine its half-life.
The Ba-137 is the result of the decay of Cs-137 substance, whose half-life is about 30 years.
The Cs-137 decays to Ba-137 generating a β radiation. In 95% of decays, this is a transition in a metastable Ba-137, that goes to Ba-137 through a y decay, with a half-life of 2.551 minutes.
The substance is load inside the isotope generator Cs/Ba- 137m.
The metastable isotope Ba-137, produces by the β decay of Cs-137, is diluted with sodium-chloride solution acitifited at the beginning of the experiment.
The activity of the radioactive substance, is then measured.
With the Geiger meter software, it is possible to control the radioactive decay curve of the Ba-137m as a function of time.
