1.1 Technical Description of the Model
The Solar Power Technology model shall consist of the Solar Panel Test Bench, Solar Panel, tripod and Pyrometer.
The Solar Panel Test Bench shall be a full-size module designed to be inserted in a workstation in which a solar panel can be installed to perform a wide variety of tests and experiments. The bench shall have a powerful halogen lamp which will be used to illuminate the solar panel under test. A ventilation system shall also be provided in the Solar Panel Test Bench to keep the solar panel at near room temperature and allow studying the effect of temperature. The halogen lamp and ventilation system shall be turned on and off through switches mounted on the front panel of the test bench. The complete Solar Panel Test Bench shall also be powered by a standard wall outlet.
A potentiometer and a set of diodes shall also be included in the Solar Panel Test Bench. The Solar Panel shall be made of up of Mono crystalline Silicon solar cells and shall consist of two independent photovoltaic (PV) modules mounted on a common metal chassis that can be installed in the Solar Panel Test Bench when performing exercises indoors, or on a tripod when performing exercises outdoors. The PV module shall allow either series or parallel connection of the PV modules. There shall be also a digital thermometer attached to the solar panel chassis to allow the temperature of the PV modules to be monitored. The model shall be provided with Pyrometer form ensuring solar irradiance.
