Impact Tester - For Electrical Lab Training Mechanical strength of various parts of electrical accessories / appliances / luminaires is determined by subjecting them to blows of specified impact energy by means of either a spring hammer type or a pendulum type impact tester.   The advantage of spring hammer type impact tester is that is can be used in any position, provided that there is enough room to apply it correctly. Also there is no constrain on the test because of the size, weight, or bulk of the accessory / appliance / luminaire under test. Its main disadvantage is that separate hammers are needed of conducting tests under different impact energies.   The Impact Tester (Spring hammer type) consists of three main parts: the housing, the striking element, and the release arrangement.   The housing is cylindrical in shape and serves to support the striking element and the release arrangement. It has a rigid PVC release cone of specified mass at its front end. The release arrangement is activated by pressing the cone against the body of the accessory / appliance / luminaire under test.
